So Hum Meditation

So Hum Meditation
So Hum meditation activates the prefrontal cortex, supporting self-awareness and mindfulness.
So Hum meditation is a powerful, yet simple yogic breathing practice rooted in ancient Vedic philosophy. This practice is designed to synchronize breath, awareness, and mantra to lead the practitioner into a state of inner stillness and expanded self-awareness.
In So Hum meditation, the natural rhythm of the breath is paired with silent mantra repetition: “So” on inhalation and “Hum” on exhalation. Unlike concentration-based techniques, this is a passive observation practice that calms the mind without forcing focus. It gently draws attention away from mental chatter and toward the present moment.
From a scientific perspective, So Hum meditation stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, reducing the physiological markers of stress such as heart rate, blood pressure, and cortisol levels. It has been found to enhance heart rate variability, a key indicator of emotional resilience and nervous system balance. EEG studies show increased alpha and theta brainwave activity, which are associated with relaxation and deep meditative states.
